Kwesi Loney named Carleton’s Head Coach of Soccer Operations:
On 21 December 2017, Carleton University announced Kwesi Loney as Head Coach of Soccer Operations for both the men’s and women’s soccer teams. Loney will become the full-time technical director of both programs, overseeing the day-to-day soccer operational functions.

“I am deeply honored to have been entrusted with the direction and future of the men’s and women’s soccer programs,” said Loney. “I look forward to working with the student-athletes and staff at Carleton University as we build upon the long standing success of soccer programs.”

“We’re very excited to have coach Loney on board as our new head coach of soccer operations,” said Jennifer Brenning, Carleton’s director of recreation and athletics. “He not only brings valuable experience as a former player and as the current coach of the men’s soccer team, but his familiarity with Carleton, the student-athletes, recruiting and alumni engagement will serve us well as we begin a new chapter with the soccer programs.”

In his new role with the Carleton Ravens, Loney will work with both the men’s and women’s soccer teams on developing an all-encompassing strategic plan, as it pertains to team development, alumni relations, community engagement, and fundraising. Loney, who will continue as head coach of the men’s soccer team, will be announcing his coaching staff in the new year.

“Knowing who we are and what we are will be key to ensuring our athletes receive the best experience during their four or five years at Carleton,” said Loney. “Establishing a clear identity will empower our athletes; creating an atmosphere where success on and off the field is a byproduct of our unwavering commitment and determination.”

Prior to his new role, Loney has served as head coach of the Ravens men’s soccer team where he guided Carleton to a record-setting 13-win campaign, a second-place finish at the OUA Final Four and a sixth-place finish at nationals in only his second year on the touchline. Previous to his time as head coach, Loney spent six years as assistant coach with the men’s soccer team, where he played a pivotal role in team operations and recruiting. In addition to his coaching experience, Loney is a former Carleton student-athlete, competing for the men’s soccer team for five seasons, captaining the side for three of those years, and earning All-Canadian status in his graduating year.

It is with great pride to see one of our own be appointed this position. In Kwesi we have someone who has been through the process, knows the culture, history and importance the program can have on an individual. We have faith that Kwesi will ensure the Carleton Raven passion, wining mentality, culture and traditions continue to be instilled.

We also want to thank all the behind the scenes work that took place from certain individuals who`s efforts helped develop this new full-time position.

On behalf of your alumni, we would like to congratulate Kwesi and confirm that he has our full CSAA support.
